The sat nav now appears to be working OK except for the fact that the SD card will no longer work in slot 2 as instructed by Skoda. It will work however from slot 1. Slot 2 is still operational - I can play music from it OK. So I'm quitting whilst I'm winning for the moment.
Chris. That only works for Columbus systems, Amundsen requires the mandatory use of a Skoda specific SD card to do any sat nav updates. Also if you do any map updates, use the VW sat navigation site for a more up to date set of maps. Use Golf GTi as the car (after 2017) and then choose either:

I've just bought a 2020 Arteon R-Line 2.0 TDI-CR and it comes with the latest (and improved) infotainment system. The first thing i noticed was on entering a postcode it either came up with "Not Found" or "Off Road
All versions of the Octavia Estate come well-equipped. Standard kit includes a DAB radio, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, sat nav, wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto

A couple of things come to mind (which you may well have looked at already) IIRC the ignition has to be on for the satnav to function properly (not just the infotainment system on)

Download Amundsen maps from the website. Backup the current Skoda SD card content to your PC then delete the files (do not format the card) Copy the new files to the SD and then insert in SD slot 2 (one to the right) Open the Nav by pressing the Nav button, the device should just read the map content.
Everybody goes to the VW with Seat and Skoda. It's the EC1 we got on ours from this release but casual Seat readers should not do this without the overall.nds file workaround - Google it. Doesn't apply to Skoda or VW. mapcare thingy which you have avoids doing that for Skodas. You unzip and put in the top directory on the map card, obviously.
So, if the hybrid system can self tune, it may be able to use the navigation Db when approaching a long descent regardless of route guidance or not; or whether Waze is in use or not. The OP referred to the manual stating it use Navigation data. My experience tells me my 1.5tsi uses navigation data for eco tips. Posted 26 September, 2021 (edited)
